Grooving The Bell BD Variations PT 1

In Jazz the HH foot is used to keep the upbeat snapping. In this article we'll explore some 16th note ride patterns using the bell of the ride and upbeats being performed by the HH foot to achieve the same effect with a rock groove. Here's the basic form:
                    

 

Once you get this feel solid try these variations:





Try this ride pattern with the same BD variations:

                           

 

Play these grooves slow MM 60BPM then increase the tempo until groove is comfortable. Part 2 will deal with adding 16th note ghost notes in the SN.
